justnick's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A day in the life BGM: "Dentist!" - Howard Ashman There's nothing quite like a trip to the good ol' dentist to make a guy feel inadequate. Oh sure, it starts friendly enough, have a seat, how 'bout that weather, the habs are doing well. But then they break out the bib. Just in case at any point in the next half hour you forget who's really in charge here. The you open your mouth, never quite wide enough, and you can just see their dissapointment. You look up at them, hoping to yourself they don't hate you for your horrible horrible dental hygiene, which you never really thought was all that bad until just now. But then, you can swear you just saw it, he shakes his head at his assistant. Ever so slightly. All of a sudden, you're a fugitive. just get me out of here before he realises I don't floss. But then it happens. "How often do you floss?" he asks, already knowing full well that you don't. "um..." your mind is working, a mile a minute. "Not as often as I should, I guess." You try to look casual, yet apologetic. You can feel your face burning. "Mmmhmmm." Pause. Long, uncomfortable, painful pause. You realise, during this pause, that you do not floss because you are a bad person. A person who doesn't floss, and at some point has probably plagiarised, or lied to an old person. "I want you to floss once a night from now on, ok?" Freedom. Redemption. A chance to atone for my errant course through life thus far. And now, just to wipe the slat clean, he's going to clean my teeth. And that, dear people, is when you realise that you are the most disgusting slobbering human being to ever grace the face of the Earth. Your spittle is flying aroundlike old faithful on meth, and by the time you get out of there, half your face is lubricated, not to mention the good doctor's gloves and your bib. But hey.
